I dont disagree with most of your post but point out: do you know of any stock holder who would complain while a stock is going up? Obviously not. But if there is evidence of manipulation or insider trading and ASIC can come up with the goods action needs to be taken, whether its a case of manipulating upwards or downwards. I think the real issues for Asic would be:

1. Is the company or its officers involved in any way?
2. Is any licensed broking firm or institution involved?
3. Are any of the above or anyone else involved in insider trading or sp manipulation.
4. When large moves have occurred up or down is there a record of cross transfers between parties that could amount to manipulation?

My questions are hypothetical only and am not suggesting anything like that has occurred but these are the type of issues I would envisage ASIC would look into.
