The locker actuators may be half the price of the others except for the high cost external door/hatch locks, say $50 for the cheap ones, $100 for the seats and $200 for the external locks making about $90K per plane. This secures the aircraft during between-service periods saving money in security searches each day. It saves money by greatly reducing weight while increasing functionality and all for the same cost as currently applies. Why wouldn't the operators especially want them in all their aircraft? Reconfigure seating in a couple of hours between flights if necessary.

However, when you look at it in the cold light of day you come to the conclusion that the returns from all the engineering input are less profitable than entering the higher volume cheaper markets. That is not to scoff at $40-50M worth of net business for a new aircraft but there are quicker and easier and generally more profitable markets to conquer first. Building a cheap laptop security clasp that yields just $5 profit would be a much easier way to make at least as much money. Then add the new PC security fastener, various USB-based fasteners of peripherals and the market looks very attractive. Apply the technology to home security, businesses, farms, boats and the profit grows with no additional costs of significance.

BAE is also heavily involved in the Airbus industry so we can expect a spin-off from the several applications being developed by them, particularly for securing and interrogating smart panels for access and servicing.
