OK, TL - here it comes....
I agree wholeheartedly with kens! The notion that addiction to prescription opiates can or should be treated with yet another prescription opiate strikes me as pernicious and cynical. And, it's a road we have been down before to no good end with methadone.
The FDA ought to send these applications right straight back to the satanic companies who generate them with a "REJECTED - DO NOT RESUBMIT" stamp on each and every page.
One big part of the answer ought to be an opiate delivery methodology that minimizes overdosing and dosage excursions due to "slug dosing," maintaining a consistent dosage at the minimum level delivering adequate paid relief and no more, thereby minimizing risk of addiction.
A clever company developing such a product ought to be in a position to contribute to a great social good and make buckets of money at the same time.
