I live 15min drive from work, so I only pay $50/month for my fuel! Many people would be in the same situation (at least half the people I work with live locally).
Installing solar and a powerwall to charge an EV for me would be completely idiotic.
Also, people who are renting (32% of all Australian households, 2019 Census, ABS); "Dear landlord, please install solar panels and a battery for me so I can charge my car, thanks"... yeah right, lol.
People are going to be very shocked if/once petrol cars are phased out, it isn't going to come cheaply, not by a long shot, for the average end user.
