I've recently had a Tesla Powerwall II battery installed in the garage; during the day the high-end solar panels on the roof charge up thie battery which then begins to discharge [almost completely] for the next 5 or 6 hours after the sun has disappeared.
The whole procedure repeats itself every other day and night. [if the sun shines adequately]. Mains Grid backup is essential no matter what the sun does.
To charge an EV, as well as the evening's household electricity requirements, it would require a second Tesla Powerwall II battery and a good deal more panels on the roof... an addtional outlay of some AU$ 25,000 PLUS.
Those Tesla batteries do not come cheap.
I think the ORG offering is going to be around for some time to come.
