IMHO whether or not you are underwater on a parcel of shares should not impact on investment decision. Whether to buy, sell or hold should be about maximising return. If you think you can do better elsewhere, sell, take the loss and move on (worked out on an after tax basis).
Taking up the rights to lower your average is stupidity if you don't think the share price is going to appreciate and the yield improve.
However, do as I say, not as I do. Can't always be emotionally detached with my own money.
