Pumping and Dumping? It does happen all the time.If it does or does not does it really matter when buying a good stock at good price for the long term. In Origin Energy's case it, one would think, is that the fact that there are now less head winds and more tail winds since their share price peaked way back in 2008, coincidently when oil last peaked. Since the madness of excessive gearing in the race to produce LNG and soon after the failed BE takeover attempt of OE things have slowly changed for the better. Under Frank's leadership he and his team have carefully and patiently tacked the ship across the headwinds and is now finally finding the tail winds that OE deserves. Some are tailwinds beyond OE's control but many are tailwinds that have been caused by their own hard work.
These are just 10 things that have changed sediment for me since 2008:
1/ Oil price on the move up. Due to back to pre pandemic levels and shortage of supply
2/ Oil companies, mainly LNG producers, not being beat up as much due to the fact that the investment houses are slowly realising that LNG will be a necessary transition fuel for decades to come and solar/wind will not cut it for a long time to come. And is necessary for a stable and safe world. Particularly when the war drums start beating
3/ Under investment in the industry over the past decade. So less new sources likely to come to the market for a very long time
* USA fracking is on the way down due to well capacity (according to Wall Street Journal reports)
4/ Big reduction in OE's debt levels to very manageable levels
5/ Big cost reductions and cost to serve for not only APLNG but also most other parts of the business
6/ Big improvement in cash flows
7/ Electricity wholesale margin improvement
8/ Potential huge gas reserves at Beetaloo in the NT
9/ 10% stake in Octopus Energy .....NB watch this space
10/ Customer stickiness improvements
So if anyone is pumping and dumping then good luck to them but for me this is a long stock to see the returns that long term shareholders once enjoyed in the early to mid 2000's.
