Looks like mgmt did this to write off as much as they could in order to reduce the book value and hence improve the "ROCE" which is an input into their remuneration scorecard which in turn determines their short and long term bonus...
in that case i dont think they will unwind the impairments and will fight hard to say we are at peak prices and expect to go lower in the long term.
