    As for the potential massive volume of the day, it could just be a nice churn for the funds and trading desks.

    Big selling on the gapped up open (which happens very often on good news) and taking advantage of the following weakness and buying back in the lower prices, generating profit and retaining most or more of their positions at the end of the day.
