Orlando cuts Riverland grape contracts Friday, 14/05/2010 Orlando Wines has cut more than 30 contracts for wine grapes in South Australia's Riverland. The cuts leave growers with 8,000 tonnes of fruit come next vintage, with no winery to go to. Chris Byrne, chief executive of the Riverland Wine Grape Growers Association, says it's a huge blow to an already struggling region. "Most of these growers have already run their reserves well down, and we all know there's not too many, if any, wineries out there at the moment looking for additional supply," he says. "The outlook for these growers is very grim. "The company has indicated that come 2013 they would like to review the situation and possibly re-engage the growers, but our concern is that these growers will not be able to survive until 2013."
