It is a common misconception to equate brine with water - so many times reported as a vast number of litres of water required to produce a tonne of lithium.... To be very clear, although vast amounts of water may be evaporated from brine ponds, no farmer is going to irrigate their crops with brine.
There are some issues in the Atacama due to the shallow halite hosted brines exploited there. Brine extraction from the top 20m or so does result in lower brine levels in the lagoons which causes a few issues for flamingoes and the occasional hardy tree. Olaorz brines are clastic hosted and extracted from around 100 to 200m below surface - no impact on surface brines.
