Thats actually a really good question... part of the reason as to why I do not believe in corporate VCs...
Corporate VC is full of B-grade Investment/Strategy folk, who have the power to sign large cheques, funded by other parts of enterprise... in the name of innovation... easy come easy go... And in this case it looks like most of it was burnt this year.
Does it really suprise you though? look how much have CBA/WBC spent on junk like R3 or Ripple? Would be Hundreds of millions, if not Billions... and last time I checked, they're going nowhere.
So why were they interested? Probably sold the dream on being the next credit card equivalent... but hey, they also were sold down the Prospa partnership path, so clearly their strategy in general leave a lot to be desired.
