A new report has raised doubts over the viability of the proposed Papua New Guinea to Queensland gas pipeline. A leaked report compiled by several sources, including the World Bank and Austrade, cites several barriers to business investment in the country. These include rising crime, squalid economic conditions, political instability, corruption and civil unrest. The authors of the analysis, which has been circulated among managers at Woodside Petroleum, ultimately suggests that the pipeline project will not reach fruition. While pipeline supporters remain optimistic the project will proceed, Oil Search's top two executives were unavailable for comment.
