suppression, is a last resort - gritting ones teeth, but it requires a lot of energy
however, giving into hindrances, with mindfulness, will eventually result in dispassion
"eventually" can mean quite a long time
but' both responses are far from ideal
better to bring to remembrance where you know it leads, thereby pulling up the roots - rather than covering the bamboo bush with tarpaulins, or letting it work it's way through your section.
for instance, if you habitually give in to sexual impulses, the basic tendency can be transferred more easily towards others impulses, and before you know it you have created a lot of trouble for yourself and others.
