"You don't need to be restricted to 600 kcal/day to reduce insulin resistance in Type 2 diabetes and improve control of blood sugar levels."

No one here or at Newcastle Uni [UK] said you did.

    Point ii)
"...Get off your bum and walk for 40 minutes a day at 120 paces/minute every day - or else do some equivalent form of aerobic exercise..."

I'll think about all later, when I go for my lovely 60-90min daily walk [indeed, the highlight of my day] and that's why, for the record, my Dr tells me I've got lovely controlled sugar levels! ;)

    Point iii)
Metformin - may well be cheap etc and MAY in fact, likely have further medical applications, but it's also, in truth, is an old technology and I hope over the next 5-10yrs we can do A LOT better for people. Also, metformin does not sadly, address the underlying cause of metabolic conditions!

    Point iv)
The "diabetes industry", exists, because a lot of inefficient and ineffective dry gullies have been raced up, over many generations. Diabetes comes in a number of forms - and "being overweight" MAY indeed be a sign of the most common form of T2 (lifestyle) - however, some T2's are also peg thin and represent a harder to address population of people!

This isn't a "mine's bigger than yours" contest, so I don't understand your outright hostility to serious science, being applied to helping address a substantial medical condition - I don't understand the "no/don't/won't" mentality?

Surely, investigate, understand and [possibly] resolve should be our mantra!
