You will get wide inequity in the justice system when crusading journalists whip up public prejudice in the case of Muslims committing rape while there is no mention of cases of Australians committing rape until after the sentence.
Whipping up hatred of the outsider for ratings or sales is a cowardly cynical act.
Either the huge sentences imposed on Muslims should be across the board in all cases, or else light sentences that are based on some scale of equivalence of the severity of the offence, not on the offenders ethnic origins, should be used across the board. No different standards based on ethnicity or religion. No going easy on footie heroes because they have more sympathy from the public.
Justice isn't how pleased the public is with a sentence, it's how appropriate the sentence is to the actual wrongdoing.
The media should be banned from reporting on cases before the courts. Banned under pain of billion dollar fines if they offend. Justice is more precious than anything else. What's a pissy little two column item in the Telegraph or a talking point for Jones compared to justice in the court system.
