Plecondaril was generally well tolerated by the patients. But two of the key sticking points with the FDA was (1) that precondaril enhanced liver metabolism by certain enzymes (2) antiviral resistance was observed. BTA have yet to address both. On the former, the enhanced liver metabolism (increased CYP3A4) chewed up the contraceptive therapy of the pill and resulted in a couple of pregancies in healthy volunteers (prevention study). Tough luck there... I think BTA got their cohort right. Hard to be amorous with severe asthma + flu.
