Friday's action was a result of Index based Fund Managers having to rebalance their portfolios for the inclusion of CHN in the ASX300. Some funds needed to sell by COB on Friday as it was no longer a small cap, others needed to buy as they were underweight. The only way to do the volumes needed was in the auction at the close - the trading during the day is too thin to take major positions.
