I agree with most of that to a degree. The problem is we currently have a taxpayer funded ABC pushing socialism at every turn, every single presenter of political opinion is a full blown socialist, 40% of the ABC workforce votes green ie socialist. We have schools and universities full of extremist left wingers again pushing socialism. There is a very real danger in the direction we're headed and it's happening across the western world Is the US really that bad? Which country has been responsible for the majority of major technological advances in recent decades? Which country is responsible for the majority of advances in medicine and health technology? etc etc. People love to hate the US but the reality is the world is a much better place because of them. Can you say the same of any socialist country? Left wingers encourage disadvantage by wanting to push more free money at people, instead of encouraging them to get off their butts and make something of themselves. The reality is people aren't meant to be equal, some people are driven to succeed while others are willing to plod along through life and survive, so why should there be an equal outcome? I personally have spent many years learning to trade and invest in the markets, many years spent making money only to give it all back and on average losing money but through countless hours of hard work(an online trading friend laughs when I'm sending him charts at 3am) and an unwavering will to succeed, I'm now making a decent buck, does the person who isn't willing to go through those years of hard work and losing money deserve part of my success? I don't mind helping the genuine cases who can't work through real disability or helping someone survive while they get back on their feet but paying people who refuse to help themselves by stealing from someone who puts in the hard work isn't fairness or equality

America rates poorly on a lot of metrics. But the social democratic countries like the Nordics, Uruguay, Netherlands, and to lesser degree NZ and Aus, rate higher in terms of happiness, quality of life, livability, and less crime & political instability.
