This week it was announced that Ansett workers were getting a final payment bringing their total payout to 95% of their "entitlements"

Here is how the ABC presented this story.

    "balanced" report here

Had to mention that (apparantly) the news of the closure came "in the middle of the night", that some ex workers still owe money to their families, that some committed suicide, that the Howard government supposedly made a "profit" on the the levy they introduced to cover a loan that they made to the liquidators etc etc.

No mention of Combet's role in getting rid of the original administrator because they wanted to close it down - based on a cock and bull story about conflict of interest.

No mention of the fact that the redundancy entitlements of the Ansett workers were by any measure over generous, that Combet basically re-wrote the definition of redundancy to include when the company you work for actually goes broke.

No mention of the unsecured creditors (small businesses) who got zero payout.

No mention of the fact that the company that effectively replaced Ansett (Virgin) flies twice as many flights with half the staff.

No mention that a vast majority of Ansett employees obtained other jobs within a short space of time.

No attempt to explain the facts surrounding the ticket levy, which was never to raise money for Ansett workers - quite the opposite.

    enuff already...
