There's a few things that are uncomfortable about this. First maybe you haven't heard about this -

There has been a history of over publicizing around this trial. As the article states the trial has 32 people but it's not a double blind placebo controlled trial which is constantly "overlooked" in their presentation of the trial. The data analysis is underway not complete. MacFarlane speaking like this again is not really what he should be doing right now in my opinion.
