No they won't. They never have and never will, at least not to any great effect.

This is one of the most ignorant and misinformed articles I've read in a long time. To think it was written by the CEO of Oxfam Australia is dangerously disappointing.

Firstly, economic inequality is nothing new. It's been around since the beginning of time and is the outcome of natural selection i.e. the strong, smart and canny will always have an advantage over the weak, stupid and foolish. It's not a fair system but nothing in nature is! The gap between rich and poor only appears to be widening because of how wealthy the rich are becoming NOT because of how poor the poor have become. Ask any ancient Egyptian slave and I'm sure they'd much rather be living in poverty in 2021 than being fed to lions for shits and giggles in 3000 BC. As far as Maslow's hierarchy of needs goes, the poorest people alive today would be considered wealthy by comparison. Of the 195 countries in the world, 170 have some form of social security system in place that attempts to protect it's citizens from poverty.

Secondly, most people fail to understand the term 'wealth'. For example, Elon Musk is not wealthy because he has US$188b. He's wealthy because he creates abundance and opportunity for others. Refer Elon Musk Offers $100 Million Prize for best carbon capture technology as an example. The article conveniently fails to mention things like this!!! Elon Musk has singlehandedly done more for the betterment of the planet than everyone else on it combined. Now granted, there are many wealthy individuals undeserving of their fortune (most athletes and pop stars for example), however there's equally many poor people deserving of their poverty i.e. drug addicts, criminals, degenerates etc. Should Lyn Morgain's "global reset" protect those people?

"if you’re poor, a woman or from marginalised racial and ethnic groups you’re more likely to have lost your income, or be pushed into poverty" - show me evidence of this?

"Extreme inequality is not inevitable, but a policy choice" - ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!!! Refer above paragraph on natural selection. The author appears intent on undermining our democratic, capitalist, free-market system. A system that has worked for hundreds of years and drives innovation, invention and collaboration. A system that offers equal opportunity for anyone with the motivation and determination to succeed.

"Around the world the virus is disproportionately taking the lives of poor people, and those from marginalised racial and ethnic groups" - it's not disproportionate at all when you consider the ratio between the poor and wealthy. Viruses are indiscriminate. To say it's unfair because wealthy people can afford better healthcare is ridiculous.

Phrases like these reek of a left-wing, socialist agenda bordering on communism and we all know where that leads.

I've lost all respect for Oxfam regardless of how many Comedy Festivals they put on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
