The Nigerian government wants to put the country’s mining and minerals industry on a rapid growth trajectory and is implementing a number of strategic initiatives to achieve this. One of the objectives is to encourage the development of Nigeria’s downstream sector: beneficiation, processing and trade – which has been highlighted by role players in the field as a necessity to break growth barriers.
As lockdown measures in Nigeria are eased and the economy reopened, growing the country’s broader mining and minerals industry will be prioritised with the objective of sharing prosperity for all stakeholders by increasing investment opportunities while minimising import dependency and increasing contribution to the GDP.
Join Mining Review Africa, Nigeria Mining Week and PwC for a live panel discussion which will focus on what measures are being put in place to deliver on this strategy and what key role players in the beneficiation and mining sector are saying.
Key discussion points will include:
- How Nigeria can improve investment into the sector through increased beneficiation opportunities
- Developing Nigeria’s downstream/beneficiation mineral policy – status and next steps
- The value-add greater beneficiation can deliver to the Nigerian economy through such initiatives – for both the local and international markets
- Encouraging local transformation and boosting local market and job opportunities through local beneficiation
- The need to develop energy minerals, particularly bitumen, coal and uranium for local use and power generation
- Case studies – what is already: lessons learned and leaders to follow by example
- Supporting a ‘Made in Nigeria for the world’ initiative
