I can not come at the similarly CO2 is the nutrient of life. Put me in a room full of CO2 and I am not going to last. It does fertilise plants but increased yields come at a reduction in nutrients and protein which is what we eat or what we eat eats. I need a mix of oxygen and nitrogen to breath. In the oceans and increase in CO2 will lead to a decrease in the pH which leads to the increased dissolving of crustaceans and coral and this interrupts the food chain.
Ecosystems are really about the flow of energy through a system, increase or decrease or divert that flow of energy and you start messing with the ecosystems productivity. Simplify the ecosystem and you start to reduce the amount of energy in the system and the residence time of energy in the system and the less energy we have to harvest form the system.
Ecosystems can collapse slowly or suddenly, usually they do so slowly and then suddenly and they are bloody hard to rebuild.
