Bacci, You miss the point that it would be impossible to divert more than a fraction of one percent of the water that flows to the sea via our Nth Qld rivers.
Early this year it was the Herbert R's turn to flood and enormous quantities of water rushed out to the sea, but the event is usually all over in a week. Just how much water can you syphon off in a week? NOT BLOODY MUCH! After "the flood" the rivers quickly dry out and there is not enough water for the locals to water stock, let alone pump millions of litres south. Which river will flood next year? I have no idea, do you? Will ANY flood? Again I don't know.
The heavy rain in the North is cyclonic in nature and thus very unpredictable.
