It's terribly easy to just light the bush off and try to keep the burn controlled but I've been looking at some areas where it's been done a while ago and the first thing that happens is the scorched leaves all drop leaving a fresh flammable ground cover, then only the eucalypts start to recover - the rest is finished.
The idea is to remove all the flammable "rubbish" from under the trees but it simply doesn't work. Many small animals are caught in their burrows and burned as well.
