of course humanity has science and technology to protect us from our own "extinction". and of course science is trying to find ways to protect other species of life from becoming extinct.
one of the key risks is very close to occurring. the Antarctic ice shelfs are vitally important in maintaining the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current (AMOC) and the resultant upwelling of nourishing plankton from the Southern Ocean floor no longer occurring. should the AMOC cease to flow as it has for many thousands of years, many ocean species will starve to death. baleen whales will be the first to be affected.
lots of species are at high risk of extinction due simply to temperature change.
