Mega, I am reliably informed (not going to publish company or persons names) that by 2020, groundwater for the mines in the northern part of Chile will no longer be sufficient to sustain operations. The only other viable option is desalination and recycling on a massive scale.

Google the BHP desal plans in Chile for an idea of the volumes coming online, I think someone posted a link a few weeks ago.

I wonder how many CETO units would be needed to supply that kind of volume? Hopefully we will soon be provided with some data on how cost effective a CETO unit is compared to fossil fuel driven desal.
