In what way is a National Press Club guest speaker, Pauper or King, able to dictate the format and terms of their appearance - within an election campaign, even, surely a matter of mutual bi-partisian agreement - in supposed friendly terms. Organised by the entity running the event. Not used, as Rudd did, for one to kick the other, publicly, undefended, in the guts - as Rudd did. PLaying the man, so foully.
WHY should Abbott have turned up? There IS no official election campaign with no date given! Even then, it would be broached, and if agreeable to both, organised, by the NPC - NOT just set-up by Mr. Rudd, or the Labor Party, on some whim! But this shows us all how hugely arrogant they've now become. The media luvvies all as weak as water.
National Press Club invited Rudd - Rudd, probably panicked at the thought of not being able to say anything plausible - - considering the train wreck he now leads - wants to change the terms of his appearance - HE demands Abbott comes along too (without any courtesy reference - let alone having given him the courtesy of an election date, God forbid) - and HE sulks - wanted to turn it into a "debate" - blames Abbott - insinuated Abbott's shirking it. Infers Abbott's the coward - when its himself! (No date!)

And now he's off to solve Papua New Guinea's problems. How about staying home - to help your OWN country! The National Press Club hierarchy deserve our disdain and scornful censure today - for allowing this conceited twerp to stand there, reading some prepared speech (by someone else probably, badly) and demean and insult a perfectly decent Opposition Leader, unable to be allowed to defend himself. To their management, I say "very bad form!"
