I am wondering how much CWE is reliant on EU grant money for the WaveHub project?

From what I gather, CWE has accumulated the funds through sources in Australia to design, build and deploy Ceto 6 at Garden Island.

According to their timeline, the PWEP deployment in 2017 is supposed to be ahead of the WaveHub deployment in 2018.

It may be that the first Ceto 6 buoy is built in the UK, using the funds already in the bank. Ceto 5 was built in Vietnam, so there does not appear to be any restrictions on where they are constructed. The same should also apply to where they are tested.

Perhaps we will see the PWEP buoys built and tested in Falmouth for deployment in Perth.

After that, buoys can be deployed at WaveHub where they can be showcased for commercialisation.

The cost of deploying three buoys at WaveHubs plug and play facility, will be much less than the funds allocated to PWEP, as that included all of the design costs as well as the costs of construction, bathymetry, grid connection, environmental impact study and many other associated costs.

Whether or not the EU wants to contribute more to WaveHub might not matter too much as the project is now ready for devices to be deployed.

If Ceto 6 proves to be a success, the EU might want to assist with projects in countries like Ireland, Portugal, Spain, etc. If not, governments from any country are free to provide funds toward worthwhile technology that meets their needs.
