Well it all gets back to your investment approach. Long termers sit here through thick and thin and reap their reward. Short termers might miss going from bottom (bargain price) to top, but they turn their money over much more often and make many smaller returns. To the short termer, money left saging in these types of stocks is money that could be earning better returns elsewhere.
If you look at the current market, good news is being totally ignored in relation to a lot of good concept plays that aren't deliverying cash. Ag sector is doing well because people are starting to believe it has a big future. So ag is the fad that alternative energy was last year!
The best approach with stocks like this is probably to have a core holding (long term) and also hold some for trading on positive announcements. I have tried this, but tend to shy away from selling because I continue to see the long term potential.
