    There are other valid viewpoints on the subject. Whereas it’s hard to defend say 100% tarriff rates it can argued that the last 10% or so is easily compensated for by extra PAYE etc. There are also valid reasons to maintain some domestic manufacturing capability. Somehow most high wage European countries manage to maintain sizeable car manufacturing industries. Probably easier to justify than middle class welfare such as subsidised private health as feathers was ruffled about.

    Personally I am for fairly liberal trade, but not completely free and unfettered trade. Countries can become too interdependent imho. Market failures are everywhere. One only has to look at the various Australian gas markets and where they each headed without intervention.

    Anyway this is all off topic. CVN has a product whose price is set by anything but free markets (something which I believe mostly exist in theory only).
