We might be seeing some short covering leading into the acquisition announcement. The short interest as of 4 days ago was around 7.45M shares and maybe we are seeing some lowering of short risk. If someone is going to short cover I can't think of a better time to do it than on a day like today when the market is likely to get crunched. Helps to keep the downward pressure on the price against the cover buying pressure.
