I think it was a pre-arranged move with around 16M going off at the auction. At 4PM a whole string of large volume sells instantly hit the sell queue, about a dozen or more with the first about 1.5M @ 57 then about 550K then a string of around a dozen 250-500K sells . Match price dropped to 57 along with my jaw.

A few buyers started to lift the match price to around 72 then a 5M buy at 86 hit the buy queue and it grew from there. There was no attempt by queue juggling to balance the price back to the 4PM close which was around 81 or 82.

It could be a short covering deal between 2 parties with a seller providing the volume for a serious short cover at a price premium of a few cents. However the short interest would be around 8M at the moment and that doesn't explain the big volume of 16M unless the short seller decided to go long at the same time and snapped up a few extra million shares at a premium.

There is no doubt in my mind that it was a deal of some sort but only guessing at the motive. The interesting part is that someone bought a huge chunk of DNA at a premium and it would nice to know why, maybe just the acquisition re-rating???????????
