When I was a young'un we always had chooks, there was a sliding door on a rope,
that would open to let the chooks roam in, if the wished to, acres of bush,
and much to Mums' annoyance, Dad you to let them roam on the lawn.
Beautiful eggs, and the bit of scratching/droppings on the lawn, the lawn thrived as well.
