"I’m sure many of us wonder why organisations such as United Nations havepolicies on climate change, but no real policy on population growth."

Below is my reply to a poster who sincerely believed that the problem would be solved through science taking us to another planet.

So; If we stop scorching the earth by multiplying like rabbits and migrating like lemmings to destroy newer pastures, we should have the cow f@rts and forests back to acceptable levels, reduce populations and increase prosperity.

However, the challenge is not nature; but social beliefs and an economic model based on growth that does not align with a shrinking population.

Along with population control we need to find a way to sustain our living standards through a shrinking economy.

Our economic model is growth based, so we import labour to perpetuate our economic prosperity. This labour usually comes from countries with high population densities, and so the cycle continues low population countries sucking labour from high population density countries to fuel economic growth.

We are confronted with the two demons, increasing population and an economic growth model.
