Tas firm hails broadband via power lines Tasmanian homes may soon be able to receive high-speed Internet through their pre-existing copper electricity cables.
Aurora Energy has completed the first successful field trials in Australia of broadband Internet services via power points instead of through the telecommunications network.
Chief executive officer Peter Davis says the technology will dramatically speed up the Internet.
"The speeds that we were getting were something between 10 megabits a second and 30 megabits which if you compare it to a standard ADSL telecom line the best you'd get out of that would be two megabits," he said.
"We were able to plug in computers into the power points and get streaming video from some of the Internet websites and watch a movie in real time where the signal was being transmitted down the power line."
