overpaid baggage handlers, page-71

I worked for Virgin as a baggage handler for a couple years, at the time was on about 17.50 plus penalties. I have moved on from that job and honestly would never consider going back even if I was being paid what the Qantas boys are being paid. Working on your knees in confined spaces with your back hunched, neck bent forward lifting bags 30 to 40kg above shoulder height cramming them in those 737s as in Virgins case. Back injuries, shoulder injuries my knees will never be the same, you dont get those conditions being a uni grad, totally understand that doctors,nurses etc are underpaid for what they do but ok people want to lower the conditions of the baggage handlers because they are unskilled and apparently dont do anything. Ok who will be next on the list, you know we could get some real cheap doctors and nurses from overseas as well, well they have done that havent they..Dr Patel was one wasnt he? We all want quality of life and sure some do work harder then others and deserve more, but if people want to start eroding the conditions that have been improved over time where will it stop. Do you want to be like the US and pay people 3 bucks an hour, yes that works well! If your lucky you have one weeks vacation a year, sick leave ...maybe the president has that. Australia needs to trim the fat at the top, we are becoming so top heavy no wonder businesses a struggling.
