Contextually, and you know this, it is a reference to all those who moan about the people shorting, but fail to acknowledge those who are holders who are the lenders of the stock to shorter.
I couldn't give a toss about shorter. I figure shorter are a bit of a canary in a coal line and thus serve a useful purpose.
