Kastin listed public companies if they make a loss large enough can claim and even carry those losses forward and pay no taxes for years in some cases.I was making the point private citizens should have the right to claim any losses on their total income that's what negative gearing is ,there seems to be a school of thought that thinks banning negative will make homes more plentiful and much cheaper .
If it is introduced they may be more plentiful for a short period but rents will trend up and shortage of rental accommodation will occur why do you think Paul Keating reversed his decision to ban NG so quickly.
But as I said before I will watch and observe the results with interest if it is banned,the poor old renters will be the ones to suffer.
