This basically just means income (capital gains, dividends, interest etc) can be taxed in different people's names. One common example is if you have a non-working spouse with no taxable income. You can take advantage of their lower tax rate instead of being taxed in your own name on a higher rate. I personally haven't paid a dollar of tax of my investing profits. Not providing advice here but happy to share my knowledge with any one interested.
