Zinifex Shares Surge on Speculation of Oxiana Offer (Update3)

Nov. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Zinifex Ltd., the world's third- largest zinc mining company, had its biggest gain in 18 months in Sydney trading amid speculation of a possible takeover offer from Australian rival Oxiana Ltd.

``There is a bit of a rumor out there with Oxiana wanting to buy Zinifex in a four-for-one scrip bid plus A$4 in cash,'' said Lucinda Chan, head of Asian business at Macquarie Equities Ltd. in Sydney. That values Zinifex at A$9.9 billion ($8.9 billion), 41 percent more than it was worth at yesterday's close.
