The cynical side of me says it felt a bit like an infomercial for the nutritional supplement "upgraded aging". This isn't helped by Alan Cash's Terra Biological website appearing to be flogging a weight loss supplement. Vested interests maybe?
However, on doing some supplementary research, there would appear some merit it what he is saying. At the start the clip, the researcher says that the Japanese company that did some of the initial research didn't follow it up, due Oxaloacetate being natural and unpatentable. So I guess the crux of the matter is, can someone who invests in meaningful research & development (ie spends millions) monetize it as drug/treatment, if others can piggyback off their work due to a lack of patentability?
If studies show that there is efficacy in Oxaloacetate for the treatment of neurodegenerative conditions, like Parkinsons and TBI etc., you would hope someone picks it up for the benefit sufferers.
