Australian miner, Oxiana, will not be deflected from its growth strategy by the global financial crisis. On 23 January 2008, the company reported that production in the fourth quarter of 2007 met expectations. MD Owen Hegarty said it was in a good position to continue its expansion and had the ability to makea major acquisition. He added that the outlook for zinc was good despite weaker prices at present, so there may be buying opportunities.
