While oxycodone related deaths are regrettable, they must be kept in perspective.

What the oxycodne patch offers the medical profession goes far beyond reducing accidental fatalities.

It offers consistent plasma dosage, eliminating or reducing breakthrough pain, it offers the opportunity to reduce high peak plasma levels that are inherent with oral dosing, it offers convenience to hospital nursing staff who won't need to administer oral medication every few hours, and it offers the probablilty of reduced abuse as it is not possible to jack up plasma oxy levels with the patch, nor can the oxycodone be extracted from the patch except by any economically viable method.

Is there another path to reducing abuse and possible death?

Maybe, but if there is something better than Phosphagenics patch technology, I have yet to hear of it.
