The prime areas of the Liverpool Plains are suffering badly. We are over 500 mills for the year now, and it just wont stop raining. We got 105 mls in July, and had about 60 mls so far this month. People are getting ag planes in to fly on urea and to apply herbicides. My wheat is late planted, and all the hollows are stuffed, but that would only be say 5%.
Even the lighter soil blokes and the 100% graziers on the slopes have had enough.
But overall over the north west plains it will be a big crop, much bigger than average. As you move to the north and west, the rain tapers off till they get to some perfect amounts. These fellas might have had only 350 to 400 mls. Out around Walgett and such and north to Moree, they have beautifull crops about to throw out a head, and the soil profiles are chocka. These blokes are looking at 4 and 5 tonne crops minimum and some will be into the 6's. It's gunna be big overall. Frost could get some yet. Frosts have been less than usual due to all the wet and cloud, so most crops in the main areas are a bit ahead of normal.
Summer crop is looking great. Everyone has full soil water profiles, so for me, that means I have 300 mills ready to go. Everyone is locking in grain prices and getting excited. We started selling sorghum at $180 t, and averaged up to $220, and it's dropped back a bit now. Plenty of blokes are trying cotton for the first time. 'Day' is puting in a heap, both irrigated and dryland, and the prices are good, especially now that a heaps been wiped out in Pakistan.
