When I was young our history classes taught that Aboriginals originally inhabited Australia and that was about all we ever heard about it.
Since the sixties Aboriginal and Islander peoples and cultures have been "discovered" by mainstream Australia and are now a popular subject for research and study.
We have gone from hearing very little about Indigenous peoples to hearing a great deal about them.
For ATSI people there has been both good and bad resulting from the European invasion of Australia, and history should record both aspects honestly.
Unfortunately a lot of research is politically motivated and used to support a particular point of view. I think the truth probably lies somewhere in between a lot of what is being written by various sides and should be viewed accordingly.
