Debt-laden miner OZ Minerals is preparing to make an announcement on the regulatory status of the takeover bid by China Minmetals.

The Foreign Investment Review Board has been examining Minmetals $2.6 billion offer which was announced mid-February.

OZ Minerals says the company is at risk of collapse unless the bid goes through.

But there has been political opposition to foreign investment in the local mining sector from the Nationals and the Independent Senator Nick Xenophon.
