You can definitely carry out CSG activities followed by UCG on the same coal seams. CSG would involve dewatering and releasing natural gases already existing within the coal seams/cleats, UCG could then be subsequently utilised to combust the coals still remaining to extract further gas hydrocarbons (i.e. syngas) for electricity generation, liquid fuels etc etc....
