The following information is from Procter & Gamble's "Collect & Develop" website, a site specifically created by P&G for attracting opportunities for initiating collaborative partnerships with other companies who own intellectial property & new innovative technologies.
For those detectives among us you may find the following very interesting. On this site you'll find a "needs" section. This section posts various items/products P&G require for their current development programs.
As only one of the very interesting examples the following "need" was created on 20 April, 2011 for a New Skin Delivery Technologies brief which appears was initiated in June 2010.
Need Detail
Title: New Skin Delivery Technologies and Methods for Assessment
Types: Cooked Prod, Technology
Categories: Skin Care
Description: Identification and optimization of skin delivery technologies are needed for new product development for skin and hair care.
In addition, quantitative determination of the delivery of molecules into the epidermis and dermis following topical application is an important part of our pre-clinical technology screening. Technical Needs Brief: New Skin Delivery Technologies and Methods for Assessment Non-confidential information for external sharing
Background: Identification and optimization of skin delivery technologies are needed for new product development for skin and hair care. In addition, quantitative determination of the delivery of molecules into the epidermis and dermis following topical application is an important part of our pre-clinical technology screening.
Objective
1. Provide new approaches for delivery of small molecules and/or macromolecules into the skin to achieve an increase in rate of skin penetration and/or an increase in duration of skin penetration following topical application.
2. Provide a new means of assessing the delivery of molecules into the skin (beyond the use of radioactivity and/or conventional analytical methods such as HPLC and LCMS, etc).
Constraints - New delivery technologies should be compatible/stable within skin and hair care formulations. - It is important to differentiate between delivery of materials to the stratum corneum, epidermis and dermis. - Methods should have application across a broad range of materials including small molecules and peptides. - If possible, utilization of the method in in vitro as well as in vivo settings would be an advantage.
Potential Partner Capabilities - Expertise and technologies for skin delivery. - Analytical method development and sample analysis. - Less critical is the potential for quantitative delivery methods to develop into a medium to high-throughput method.
Success Criteria: Performance: - Technologies have associated proven skin delivery in standard Franz cell methodology. - Methods for measure have sensitivity in the nanogram range and be amenable to detection in skin or skin extracts. Regulatory: Technology is cosmetically approved or approvable across global regulatory agencies including but not limited to the US, EU, Japan, Korea and China. Safety: Technology has supportive data for cosmetic safety clearance. Cost: Technology and method is affordable for cosmetic products. Formulation: Technology is stable in typical cosmetic product formulations / delivery forms. Stability data preferred for > 2 years. IP/FTP: Favorable freedom to practice for cosmetic use and IP is clearly defined and secured __________
